Arrive in Haridwar and check in to your hotel, with the rest of the day free to rest after travel. In the evening, we walk to Har Ki Pauri for the Ganga Aarti — a genuinely striking ritual of lamps and chanting along the riverbank that most travellers describe as a highlight in its own right. Your travel desk contact also runs a short yatra briefing tonight, covering registration documents, altitude precautions and the week ahead.

A scenic but long drive takes you from Haridwar to Barkot, the base town for the Yamunotri leg of the yatra. The route climbs steadily through the Garhwal hills, and this is deliberately treated as a travel day rather than a sightseeing day, since tomorrow's Yamunotri trek requires an early start and reasonable rest beforehand.

From Janki Chatti, reach Yamunotri temple — the source shrine of the Yamuna river at roughly 3,291 metres — by a trek of about 5-6 km each way, or by pony/palanquin for those who'd rather not walk the full distance. This is typically the most physically demanding day of the circuit; we pace it deliberately and build in rest stops, then return to Barkot for the night.

Drive from Barkot to Uttarkashi, a riverside town on the Bhagirathi that serves as the base for the Gangotri leg. In the evening, visit the local Vishwanath Temple, an important Shiva shrine in its own right and a quieter, less crowded stop than the major dhams still ahead on the circuit.

Gangotri, the origin shrine of the Ganga at around 3,100 metres, is largely road-accessible with only a short walk from the parking area to the temple — a welcome contrast to the previous days' trekking. After darshan, we return to Uttarkashi for the night before continuing toward Kedarnath.

A full driving day takes you from Uttarkashi to Guptkashi, the staging town for the Kedarnath leg. The road winds through the Mandakini valley, and we treat this as another deliberate rest day ahead of the Kedarnath trek, which is the single most demanding stretch of the entire yatra.

From Gaurikund, reach Kedarnath temple — at 3,583 metres, the highest of the four dhams and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas — via a roughly 16 km trek, pony, palanquin, or an optional helicopter transfer that can be added on request subject to weather and seat availability. Whichever option you choose, this is the emotional and physical high point of the yatra; we return to Guptkashi the same evening.

The drive from Guptkashi to Badrinath passes through Joshimath, a key transit town on the route, before continuing to Badrinath itself. This is a long but largely scenic drive through the Alaknanda valley, and the evening is kept free to rest ahead of tomorrow's darshan.

Badrinath temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and set between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges, is the final and only Vaishnav shrine of the four dhams. After darshan, visit nearby Mana village — officially India's last inhabited village on this stretch of the India-Tibet border — known for its Saraswati river source point and traditional Garhwali architecture.

The return drive from Badrinath to Haridwar covers a significant distance, so this is run as a dedicated travel day with an early start.
