Nepal is one of the few international destinations Indian travellers can reach without a visa or a long flight. Depending on where you're starting from, there are two practical ways in: a road journey across the Sonauli or Raxaul-Birgunj border for travellers from Gorakhpur, Raxaul or nearby towns, or a direct flight into Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, for travellers from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune and Jaipur.

Our Nepal tour packages are built around the same core circuit — Kathmandu's temple complex, followed by lakeside Pokhara, with Lumbini as an optional extension. Road departures typically run 4N/5D including the border crossing; flight-based departures usually run 5N/6D to account for arrival and departure logistics.

If you're within a day's drive of the border — roughly true for Gorakhpur, Raxaul and nearby towns — the road route is usually cheaper and simpler. If you're further away, flying into Kathmandu directly is worth the airfare in time saved, particularly for a shorter 4-5 day trip.

We'd suggest booking at least two to three weeks ahead during Nepal's peak season (October to April), when hotel availability and border-crossing wait times are more predictable than during the monsoon months of June to September.

Most of our Nepal packages focus on the Kathmandu-Pokhara circuit, but Lumbini — the birthplace of Buddha, roughly 150 km from the Sonauli border in Nepal's southern Terai plains — is a straightforward addition for travellers on a road-based itinerary from Gorakhpur or Raxaul. It adds one to two days depending on how much time you want at the Maya Devi Temple complex and the wider Monastic Zone.

Because Lumbini sits at a much lower altitude than Kathmandu, it's also considerably warmer — worth factoring in if you're travelling during Nepal's hotter months.
